Barramundi prefer water temp between 24 - 28 deg C. Quote BYAP Handbook. |

Hey Wolly, I have been reading that we cant get the barramundi to start growing until late November due to the temp. It was recommended we get bigger sizes to accommodate the shorter growing cycle we have for them in Perth. If i can get my current issues sorted out I am looking at buying some larger ones down at the fish monger. (preferably before they kill them) Cheers Rob |

yep, watch your water temps.. When your temps are getting to 18-20 and above, start thinking about it. |

Just read a good post on Barramundi under active topics. Wolly, I am going to be a while on the fish. I am moving the sytem to other side of the yard and getting some clay balls. I have given up on the Pea gravel. I picked up some blue barrels that had some glucose in them down an gnagara feed and seed for 20 each. Hope the business is going well. |

Looks like I will loose my second Koi. It always looked a bit different Anyway water tests fine and the rest of fishes are doing fine. Having now lost 2 fish I now have about 28 fish 80 to 110 av length. 15 SP, 6 commets(goldfish) and 7 Koi. My FT will hold about 2000 lt but only have about 1700lt in now. I was thinking as my temps are rising how about throwing in about 8 little Barra (smallest I can find). Is this feasable or will the Barra when it reaches plate size eat the Koi and goldfish, I could put the goldfish in the sump when the Barra look threatening and hopefully the koi will big enough to fend for themselves. Anyone ideas. |

It wouldn't be long before the barra find live food very appealing. they will eat anything they can fit in their mouths and they have big mouths. They will not wait until they get to plate size to eat your little pets, bu they will easily reach plate side if you house them together |

And barra are fussy eaters too. If they tasted live food, they might take some time to adjust back to pellet feed. Reminds me of this story... http://www.heraldsun.com.au/lifestyle/t ... 5938504314 |

Yes, Faye, but it clearly shows that predators are predators. It is a mistake to think otherwise. |

Thanks for the heads up people. That poor turtle and the little boy, I thought the thread was going to be the story of how a Killer whale ate or killed its trainer. Have a great day all. |
