Depends on how easy or hard you want to make it I guess, I would just have the pvc cut-offs in the tank and chuck them in....only problem is if they fight and kill each other you'll be going for a swim

So i have had a lot of time to do nothing lately and got stuck into some thinking about putting some yabbies into my bigger FT. I was thinking along the lines of something to hang on my pond walls and go maybe 450mm deep, the length of my pond and around 600wide... basically a base with holes to flow water and waste in and out, a back, and two ends as i would use the front wall of my FT as the final side allowing me to see through my window.... OR just put a heap of PVC off cuts in the bottom and a frame with some shadecloth on for them to reach shallower water, and see them when they come up.. thougths and ideas?? cheers Steve |

RODGER ON THE HSM... and the not so keen to jump into pond at 14.7deg. (21.2 was bad enough) so maybe if i got a nice 250L tub and floated it on the surface, it can go up and down with the cycles, be removed and if i have dead ones, i can just pull the tub to a side and pull out the offender/s ..... not to try and float a 1000mm dia x 420deep tub... (small i know but i only want a few) although i might put more in the smaller system |

I have had a few yabbies in my system for a while now, seams I the majority of the yabs I loos are eaten by there "mates" when they shed there shells but i do seam to get a feed out of them and they have bread in the system so I am thinking if you had enough hiding places in a larger tank you could possibly have a self sustaining population? I took the shade cloth hides out of my system last week and found there was about 15 yabbies left, one is quite large, there are a few medium and some small ones so I am intending to leave them bee and see if they bread, I did notice lots of gastroliths on the bottom so i know quite a few yabs got nailed when they attempted to shed. there has been some discussion on here about keeping yabs in containers on the bottom of the tank as well, think i might try that again to. |

What about some kind of mesh container or plastic tub that has holes in it - like a vege crate, large sieve or similar - or even one of those floating planter thingys they use for water lillys and the like (BYAP has some I believe?) - wrap some dense foam around the edge and make sure it floats. Having the holes big enough to allow water flow, yet small enough to keep the yabbs contained? I reckon that'd be a go-er? May be a challenge to construct one with vertical sides that make any acts of escapism null & void! But having the container or 'yabby basket' meshed would make it easy if/when you need to remove it from the tank? Make me one whilst youre at it!  BTx |

maybe 3 or 4 of the NYLEX storage tubs, in clear, holes in the base, air stones in each one too maybe.. or put them above the return... 1 male 2 females to a tub.. could even put some goldfish in to add some colour..... hmmmm |
