Post subject:  How long to survive out of water?
Now this common carp had jumped out of the tank onto a concrete floor and had been there for at least an hour.
OH picked it up to take a picture and then noticed some movement - so - quick as a flash put it into a bowl of water with an airstone - and within 15 minutes it was swimming about!
The question is - how long can they live out of water and do different species survive longer or not at all?

Wow! That's pretty impressive.

I'd heard they were durable but that's crazy.

I would think that it depends on many factors including species.... I know that none seem to last very long in the middle of summer on the hot concrete....

Nice fat looking carp. Have you tried eating any yet?

We have eaten carp in the past,baked with honey and fennel and it is OK,bit on the boney side but lovely firm flesh. They are growing rapidly so we reckon next year we could start eating them.

When I questioned OH about how she managed to get the fish back to life,I noticed a few scales on her lips so I think the crafty lass gave the carp mouth to mouth. Preferable to kissin g me I suppose. :lol:
