Does anyone know about having guppies in AP. I have them in an aquarium but not on AP. Their cool little fish and thought they may go with marron. Regards, Skipd. |

I also have them in the aquarium and they are breeding like crazy. Considering to put them in my smaller AP system come spring/summer when the temperatures warm up slightly so that I do not need to heat the system. Although I am not too sure about how much nutrients they can produce to support plant growth. |

are yours local or imported guppys. Mine are local and produce a fair bit of waste in their tank. I am trying to set up my first system. I am planning a rather large tank so could require quite a few guppies! Skipd. |

I believe my guppies are local as well... I suppose I will only find out in spring/summer whether there would be sufficient nutrients for plant growth... Are you planning on just having guppies?? What will you do in winter?? |

I've had guppies and platys in my pond for several years, taking some out every winter to overwinter indoors. They do fine in the warm season, breed like crazy, coexist with my koi and goldfish just fine; I usually sell some back to a local tropical fish store in the fall, but I can't catch all of them and quite a lot inevitably die when it gets cold. It's been interesting to see how they 'evolve' over the years; I had started out with very plain 10-for-a-buck feeder fish, and they've been developing interesting patterns through their own selective breeding program, based on whatever environmental factors are driving the selection in the pond. I don't see any reason not to put a few in your system, just to see what happens. |
