Hi all,
can anyone tell me where can I buy cheap goldfish in Melbourne please?
The pet shops I have looked at are selling them for $4 each.
Are there any bulk or wholesale aquarium shops that sell to the public?

Dale, you should be asking for 'feeder fish'
They don't keep them in tanks you can see.
They should be $1ea or less
I think my local LFS in Bundoora has them at $0.75ea.

shop around a bit, some LFS are rip off merchants. Find a hardcore LFS that caters to ppl with big fish, and you'd find cheap feeders.

I did not know that they were called feeder fish. But I also do not know what an LFS is either.

The cheap goldfishes are usually called "bronze comets" because they do not have gold/orange colour in them but are either dark bronze or black in colour... they are commonly used to feed other fishes hence the term "feeder fish"... if you are calling around, you might want to be a bit more specific in the question as I have since gambusia sold as "feeder fish" as well...

Thankyou for that simple but unknowable if you are new to it, bit of info.
I have grown vegies for years and feel I jnow what I am doing in that sphere but fish are new to me, I am an eager learner though.

I could sell you a couple of LARGE goldfish, I have been using in my systems as starter fish. Things have been progressing lately and will need to offload some of them to provide room for more usefull fish. They are really LARGE compared to when I bought them. Largest would be 160mm and Ave 120mm. I have 4 in the outdoor system and 6 in the indoor system. The ones in the outdoor system have huge round bellys but the ones in the indoor system are much more uniform in shape but slightly larger. I am in Lancefield which is further than sunshine.

Not in a great hurry for them as the water is too high in ammonia at the mo. Only have a bath to put them in, may be too small for such big fish.

the 6 I have in the indoor system are in a 250lt aquirium should be fine in a bath. let me know.
