I have tried from 3 p/m2 @ 120g to 12 p/m2 @ 5 - 10g and have tried seveal times with no success and have since given up with marron and have yabbies and loose quite a few to canabilism but they do breed and grow reasonably well. good luck though. I think C1 is the man? |

hey Dingo, marron are extremely difficult to grow in AP, beleive me I am the master of marron *frack* ups, really you can have about 8 in a 3000lt tank, marron are territorial and like a bit of space, they will try to escape if over crowed and will more than likely die trying, generally they are not vicious and will not fight each other, marron take around 3 years to get to size as well, they eat a small pellet a week compared to yabbies that eat one a day, in the same tank I have around 200 yabbies which fight to the death regularly but for a feed yabbies are best option. In saying that my Mate the GWH has secured me about 20 blue marron 8cm long for 60c each |

They like space and are better than hudini. They need gravel/sand or their tail fins will rot. They keep the algae down heaps and it is noticeable when they are not in your system. They are good to eat and I think they grow a fair bit quicker if the correct conditions prevail. |

+ 1 C1, forgot to mention the escaping, my tank is free from hoses etc that hang over edge, but they will climb pump wires, air hoses and even the walls of corry tanks, I had aviary wire on my old system to keep them, also the can be prone to human predators as well |
