Am very curious.

I have a rough guide line for how long it will take to grow from fingerling to dinner plate....but what is the life expectancy for a fish?

I'm looking at Perch and Barramundi.

Cheers

Mike

I heard 120 day from "mouth spit" to say 800 g or even 1 kg for a male tilapia if the conditions are good .. ie. all male .. in a BIG pond!

I would imagine Silver perch would take a little longer ... but say 4 months to get to one kg , well fed in a warm lake ... I am guessing here ... I never seen a 1 kg silver perch!

I never tried .. I hear all sorts of conflicting info ... :?

One scientific paper says one thing , another says the opposite!

 :?

Maximum recorded age for a silver perch is 26 years, Barramundi, I don't know.... I would guess it should be at least similar... :D

Johnnie, Siver perch and barra take a bit longer than that to mature. My Barra I grew last year went from about 40g fingerlings, up to about 500g in six months, and silver perch wouldn't be much, if any faster than that.
So you'd be looking at 12 months roughly for 1kg fish.. I think that some of the stories about tilapia are becoming just like typical fishing stories.. It was tthhhiiiiiiiiisss big..   Not to say they aren't quick growing fish though..
