Hey guys
In a few weeks I will be introducing fish to my 350L system. I am a complete newb and still have a lot of research to do but at this stage I will be keeping Silver Perch annually and Trout in winter. What else can I put in, either ornamental or eating ? As far as I can tell, I cant put Barra in with the SP. What else would I put in for summer ?
Also, is there a chart or thread here somewhere that has all the common fish types and the conditions they live in ? My searching has not found one yet.
thanks

hi benny, you may have some problems mixing fish in a small system, i have found trout to be very agressive toward other fish including them selves and the same with barra but fish i do keep together are silvers, black bream and tandanus cats and i havent had any probs so fare!

good luck.

I have no complaints from my 10cm Gold fish in with 10cm barra (YET...) but i fully expect the goldies to become protein supplements in short order..

I had 4 jade perch and 2 silver perch together in a tank and the SP were very aggressive towards the JP to the extent that i had to remove the SP. In my observations the SP would continually chase the JP all around the tank until the JP became that stressed that they would just hover at one end of the tank. In larger numbers and similar size fish might be ok.

How would I go mixing barramundi (small, whatever is available in perth) and medium sized silver perch?
I assume silvers wouldnt eat them. Correct?

Silvers are vegos mostly... they shouldn't touch them unless tiny however the cod should soon grow big enough to decimate the perch population

I have found SP to be very agressive to just about everything else. Not necessarily eating other small fish but definitely beating the daylights out of them.

Bigger fish seem to be OK, I have some pan sized trout in with my SPs at the moment and they hold there own.

I mixed one large trout with small & medium silvers. Half the silvers were losing their tail fins at first but I didnt notice the trout doing it. The silvers had to wait until the trout was full though before they got a look in at the food.

Is Golden ponds the only place to get barra's near Perth?

Ah yes, that was the other reason I put the trout in with my SPs. I was hoping that the trout would clean up the runts for me  .

Hasn't happened thus far but a couple of my trout are probably big enough to do the job now.
