I put these pictures in my system thread, bu they are really more fish related. I have two tilapia carrying eggs and I wanted to get a picture of these mouth brooders. Here is one of my regular fish. ![]() There is almost a pouch in the lower jaw of the fish that fills up with the eggs during brooding shown below. ![]() Maybe this is old hat for everyone, I just thought it was kind of cool. I should have several hundred little ones here before too long. |

That is cool. I got my first tilapia last weekend and I think they are spawning. One of the looks just like your first pic and you can see "something" rolling around in there. I wish she would open up and let me see! |

Hautions, how big is the female?? I have some about that size in my 150 gallon aquarium (not sure of sex) and I'm wondering should I be checking my biofilter for babies as the drain tube is about 2" pipe. big enough I found a couple 1" fish on the pre-filter media. |

Since most of my tanks where the fish are big enough to breed are not aquarium, I've only seen brooding fish from the top. I usually recognize a broody female by the dark stripe over her eyes and behavior right before she releases the babies (aggressively guarding the corner or something.) Cool picture though. |

My tilapia are currently spawning like crazy indoors. I'm going to run out of room soon if I can't sell some of these little guys. ranpmiller - Did you buy your tilapia from a woman named Sarah in Kansas City? |

Chappo - Sarah is my wife. We actually live on the Missouri side of Kansas City. Many years ago we lived in Topeka, Kansas though (the other OZ). |

I question the value of flying monkeys in AP systems for sure (creepy poop throwers), and the tin man would be a rust bucket in just a few short weeks with my humidity in the greenhouse. hehe |
