If you need some fish to keep your system running while you are waiting for summer fingerlings, I have a local dam that is good for carp. I am running carp as of today while I wait to get barra from Perth. If anybody wants some locally, bring your rod or message me and I will arrange.
I figure you do what you have to do to keep the system running!! :D

Thats alright, not many of blissys carp have survived so far :mrgreen: They never make it back to the wild.

I have a lot of small silvers blissy, these guys are going really well.

What type of carp are they ?There used to be a local one in the creeks here many years ago but i haven't heard of them for years .Are they the same as the ones in the Murray River or some other type?

They are exactly the same as store brought large goldfish, but they are a brown/grey.

I am interested to know how you are getting on with the carp.We have a South African friend who said if they are the same as they had there they would be quite ok as you would not get any mud taste in ap.I have since found out that the ones that were in the streams here were the european ones which grew to quite a large size .

The 'mud' taste is a load of crap. The fish have extra bones, which makes it as difficult as eating quail. They have very little texture in the flesh, so it's like eating overcooked fish, and they're bland.
I never tasted mud, and I know what mud tastes and smells like.
I think the mud has been blamed for them tasting worse than native fish, however it is wrongly so.
Carp can taste quite good I'm told, but it takes some inventive European cooking. Plus they're on a different diet over here, so that may change their flavour. And they grow faster in these climes, so it's possible they already taste like farmed fish, when caught from the river or dam.

Thanks for your comments,I was always told what terrible things redfin were and then when I tasted them I found out that they were some of the nicest fish that I had eaten so now I am inclined to try everything for myself.

I felt that way about European Carp... everybody I spoke to said how horrible it was, yet nobody could admit to having ever tried it.
So I tried it, and whilst unimpressed, decided it wasn't as bad as purported.
