Hiya Rupe, Do you think Barra will grow out in Sydney before the colder weather hits? I guess your solar heating thingamabob gives you warmer water temps during Winter. |

![]() Way things are now, my tank temp is above 18 degrees even overnight.... but who knows what next autumn/winter might bring and when... I can get larger fingerlings... which would grow to size quicker... but they'd obviously cost more.. |

Tread with cuation regards Barra fingerlings. If NSW Fisheries get wind of them swimminga round be prepared for hassles. Please keep in mind Barra are considered an Introduced Species in NSW and several boxes require ticking by Fisheries to grow them on any grand scale... excuse the pun.. |

No grand scale intended... just member AP systems... Fish will be sourced (breed) within NSW from an accredited source, and certified BNNV free... |

I am thinking of giving them a go for summer as well. My Trout are eating size already, so I can get rid of them early and raise the water temps. Any stockists for WA, I have never really looked for them |

I think Barra is a restricted import in NSW, but if it's already in NSW, in a private property, and not for re-sale you can keep them. If you have big budget, you can buy them from an aquarium shop. I think NSW fisheries don't have specific regulations for Aquaponics, therefore they are treating AP like a big aquarium. |

Barra are approved for intensive RAS in NSW... provided you source certified BNNV free stock... preferably within NSW... or pay the translocation fee & health certification fees... And as long as there is no risk of escape to natural waterways... you're above 1:100 flood level and further than 500mtr from any natural waterway... etc etc... RAS systems, particularly when surrounded by a "bund"... and AP systems are OK... And any system under 10000L is classified as a "hobbyist" and doesn't require licensing... And.... and.... |

hi Rupe Any news on the barra? me and my students are excited of the prospect of trying barra. The students have setup one of the systems and they pumped 50% of the water from an established system to help with the cycling. The tank has been cycling for 4 weeks now and the FT in the greenhouse is a steady 22 degrees. Shane |
