Sorry, probably obvious, but I still have to make sure... Brand is Aurora - No Vitamin A and C - No iodine - No calcium - No Iron SEA SALT: "This ancient natural food enhancer has been collected from the waters of the mediterranean shores of Sicily. Sun and wind evaporate sea water reservoirs to white crystalline salts masses, harvested and cleared of impurities. This true product of nature, gourmet preferred, contains absolutely no additives and may cake together after long periods of time. In our opinion, a firm tap on the bottom of the box is a small price to pay for the great taste of nature." Does it matter if it is "Coarse" ? Yay or Nay? How much ppm to quarantine new fish bought from the local fish store or pet store? I |

No it does not matter that it is coarse. However, you will want to fully dissolve the salt in a bucket of some system water before adding it to the system since undissolved salt crystals sitting on the bottom of a tank can burn a fish that happens to rest against it. The amount of salt you should use will depend on the type of fish but somewhere between 3 ppt and 6 ppt will probably be appropriate. Look up the salt tolerance of your planned fish type to help you choose a number. For something like tilapia the salt level should probably be even higher but for something like channel catfish, the salt level of 3 ppt would be appropriate since 5 ppt is as high as they should be subjected to for more than just a quick dip. |
