Hey people, some of my trout seem to have an irritation to their top fin ( top of back ) ... cant get a clear enough photo of it but it looks like maybe the other fish have had a munch on them or something.... any suggestions to what it may be if its not other fish? and what i can do to help it out... cheers steve |

salted it about 8-10 days ago with 3kg salt (dissolved then added) ..... |

lol... no i dont catch them to show people, or shine torches in there... we look during the day, during feeding time which is fast and furious, havent tested pond since october last year and there have been no deaths in the pond since sept (i think) i did have some kamakazee action tho.. leaping out... pond looks, smells, tastes the same, no bubbles around the edge of the tank like dish water... only feeding with skretting, plenty of filtration in GB, heaps of plants... nothing new to the system |

what happens if you dont feed them enough? too much is obviously bad... but they keep wanting food.... even after i stop feeding.... not getting super hungry and trying it out on their mates? just a thought... |

If their hungry they would definately be looking at each other as a potential meal. But if that was the case i think you would have had a deatrh or two ( smaller ones). Have you any idea of the fish average weight ,, feed should be 1% of body weight per day ,, some are using 1.5-2% Other question is the food you are giving , is it fresh and do you store it properly? |

Its common to see fins partly eaten away on trout in tanks. I have seen many brood fish that have hardly any tails or fins left at all. If the fins are cut off level then its due to other fish biting them off, if they have a spiky appearance then it would be more likely that you have fin rot. |

they look more level than spikey... so i can only assume that they are munching on each other... little buggers. Well i will do a 20-30% water change this weekend and go from there. thanks all. |

Mine are similar the look eaten away. They also have like a white slim build up on them. My trout last year had the same problem but they survived until the heat wave got to them. I've had 3ppt of salt in the system since I started it. |
