Today we installed a courtyard system for one of our distributing outlets. It will be very interesting to see how fast the silvers grow, as the guy is going to keep them at a steady 27 degrees. We are pre-cycling with a very small amount of urea and a 10 litre bucket of cycled gravel around the standpipe, so it should kick off fairly quickly. will keep you all posted. Apart from the temp difference, the only difference is this system will be kept inside under lights and will have a 6 outlet airpump added to compensate for the lower DO of the higher temp water. Grow you little fishies.

At 27° they would have to grow quicker than mine up here in the hills and outdoors..

The silvers, not the T_fish which I need to get to keep my winter vegies healthy. :D

Power Bill for heating a 3,000 litre tank in a reasonable climate is as little as 50 cents a night. But it does take some planning and organisation ..... throwing in your wife's hair-dryer and expecting it to work doesn't cut the mustard.

I was concerned about Silvers winter growth rates so decided to put the system in a greenhouse. Wasn't to sure how effective it would be through a cold Wollongong winter but the results so far are pretty good.

Lowest recorded morning water temperature 13.2 degrees. This was after 3 very cold days.

Highest recorded morning temperature 17.2 degrees. After several warm days and an overcast night.

Average morning temperature of around 15.

Most afternoons the water temps have been around 18 degrees with a maximum of 20.

All in all the greenhouse has done an awsome job and the silvers have kept eating.

Yep, mine too Fish Fodder... in fact they were that hungry the other day when the tank hit 22.... that I fed them three times...

I'm still feeding twice a day.... and even during that cold snap I only dropped back to once a day...

Some planning and thought ,, LOVE IT.
If you can ,, try and introduce a few passive solar elements into your hot-house.
South wall solid , plenty of water in there for storing the heat,, etc.
Then in time add a CHAPPO heater ,, reversae cylce air-con unit for water heatring ..... AND MIRACXLE,, can easily keep 22C plus at very low price.
If you want to fail ,really fail , and tell others it can't be done ,,,then bury the tanks and throw in the wifes hair dryer:)
