Post subject:  Catching Fish
so its time to harvest the trout, how do you do it?
I tried the traditional hook and worm cooncept, but these guys are smart, they they suck the worm off and once they see the hook thats it. They send the goldfish over for a closer inspection, but I dont want baked goldfish on the plate.
I scrounged an old flyscreen from a local builder, and cut it down to a smaller size and used the offcuts for additional corner bracing. Now its simply of putting the screen in the fishtank and sweeping it around to trap some trout. Insert a net and scoop out a couple for dinner and let the others go .easy

I use something similar...
a framed shadecloth drag net.
..and yes you get a chance to harvest the size u want. :cheers:

I have been using a hook that is small enough to just fit a pelit in the bite and it stays there until you strik, the only thing is it ends up a lucky dip, although if I feed the fish first it is the little ones that are still after food.
I find part of me wants to harvest the big ones and let the little ones gro and part of me wants to keep the big ones to see how big they will get so for now trout is off the menue.

I use a fishing line + hook, I find it very relaxing just like going fishing but you know you're going to catch something. Great for the kids to get involved too. I dont feed them for a day, then I get some of their normal pellets and soak them in water for a few hours so they are soft enough to get onto a hook. On some occaisions I have found that they are not always on the bite so I would have to come back an hour or two later. If you catch a small one and you want to return it you will have to remove the hook as quickly as possible with as little handling as possible as they are very intollerant to being out of the water.

My brother keeps coming around wanting to try out new lures. Also to see if the cod is biting. They do the same thing in Moree. Feed a cod in there tank and if he is hungry go fishing in the river. :D
