I have heard that murray cod are aggressive and that it is best not to provide hides and to keep the stocking density up. However I was also told to provide hides by my supplier. What has been the general consensus on this?

I've heard that darkness also reduces aggression, so maybe ensure you tanks are well covered (if they're not UV stabilised, you'll want to keep them out of the sun anyhow)

Low stocking density = hides.

High density = net over tank.

There will be some dominant fish, and these will herd other fish over the side of the tank.

Seen it at Arcadia Fish Farm  Nasty buggers.

I want some

Caught 6 on the weekend. beautiful 400mm fish... approx weight was 900g we reckon.
Pity we had to return them all with a kiss... not cod season.
In fact we caught everything but what you're allowed. Even a silver! Are the silvers in the murray the same as the one's we have? is there a breed and release scheme? It seems a pity they're endangered.
Finally we caught a Carp :-( URGH! nobody had tasted or knew anyone who had tasted, so we cooked it. 1 word, don't. It's definitely not an old wives' tale that it tastes bad! The texture and bones were the worst. didn't taste muddy.
No yellow belly :-( those I like. Cheeky buggers not biting.

hmmm a touch OT I fear, apologies.

Here in Qld, it is illegal to even take the carp away. They must be killed on spot and left.

yes same in NSW where we were, but then, we were on a houseboat... so we didn't really take it anywhere ;-)
We thought baking was as good as the approved bleeding and killing technique documented ;-)
