I'm probably getting some SPs in the very near future, and was curious what other are feeding theirs. I know pellets and other manufactured feed is available, and also know they eat vegetable matter such as lettuce or duckweed. Anyone got any advice for particular branks to seek/avoid? |

Choice of brand might come down to cost of freight to buy anything other than what's available locally.... |

Unless you have a fair bit of time on your hands, I think that it is only practical to supplement the pellet feed with stuff available onsite (eg plants, worms etc) - ie too time consuming to try and replace the pellet diet entirely. Having said that - next time I get perch, I'm keen to give a fair few things a go and see how much of their diet I can easilly create onsite. |

ryangus, I've got mainly Jade Perch and am feeding them 2mm Ridley (sinking) and 4mm Growbest (floating) pellets. They don't knock either back. Though I would say that they seem to clean up the 4mm Growbest quicker - not sure if this is because they prefer Growbest or because they prefer floating pellets? I would recommend either. One thing I've found with the Jade Perch (may not be the same as for Silver Perch) is that they eat a heap of the leaves etc that fall into the pool. This time of year I get heaps of leaves etc. from the neighbours trees that end up floating and then sinking in the pool. I thought this was going to be a real issue, but it appears that it is a real bonus, the Jades clean most of it up. I suspect, and I think I read it somewhere, that Jades become less of an omnivore and more of a vegan as they mature - not sure if this is the same for Silvers though? |

I should have mentioned that when they were smaller I feed them Ridley starter (dust/crumble - got a small bag, 1kg, from the hatchery - you don't need much) - they did well on that too. |
