Last one is a classic... been posted here before... in a downloadable "wmv" format...

Think someone debunked it though....

the reason I posted these links is to start a discussion on how we can take advantage of this

I have been thinking of applications like:

-selective feeding
so that the biggest fish don't get all the food
maybe staggered in time

such a training would also allow for:
-automatic, stress free grading

so inventors and DIY-ers:

to your drawing boards!

Might be quicker and easier to just grade your fish....

if the selective feeding works you might not have to grade your fish any more

back in opposition, Rupert? :P
I like the challenge and the humor that comes with it and I hope you know that by now

so tell me what would be against "inventing" a system where you could avoid grading and ensure better equal growth?
Surely chasing a big one must be very stressful to all your (untrained) fish

and selective breeding also would be more performing TMHO:
it would allow for initial advantages to be filtered out
as fish, like any other animal including humans and even plants, may have a slow start in growing, but make up for that later on

Very true Frank... and grading is practiced for exactly that reason.

Not against the idea of "training" your fish Frank.... just not sure it's worth the time and effort though....

Periodic grading is easy... albeit with some degree of stress, as with any handling of fish...

One wonders how stressful "training" your fish may be... both to the fish and yourself....

So Rupe - do the guys at the farm you've been working use clove oil to calm the fish when grading etc?

Clove oil isn't registered for use with food fish VB....

Why not? Don't people put clove oil in their mouth to dull dental pain and shit?

Post subject:  Re: fish training

Yep....

Just that it's not "registered" for use here in Australia....

Apparantly the cost of the registeration process is so great that only companies with a vested interest in pushing a particular "branded" product bother with the registration process...

And charge accordingly for the "registered" product...
