Ausyfish are out of jades and s cod so im thinking of stocking g perch. Mt question is how many g perch can i house in a 2500 lt tank comfortably? Should i order more to allow for the inevitable fatalities? I have 5 baths as grow beds with plenty of plant growth. With the option of adding more beds if i need to. At the moment i have about 30 goldies of varying size. Im going to transfer them to another tank. Im moving plenty of water, the pump is 18000 lt per hr on 15mins off for an hour during daylight hours. Should i run the cycle 24 hrs. The fish are healthy the water is crystal clear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. cheers Pete |

assuming 200 litres per bathtub, that equals up to 20 x 1/2kg fish per bathtub, I reckon get 100 fish. I run my pumps just enough to keep the water clear. |

Bluefin, I've heard that Golden Perch are notoriously difficult to get on to pellets.... and to keep them on pellets.... Apparantly, many will just refuse them... might prove to be problematical... What's wrong with stocking Barramundi??? |

ausfish have no barra untill january, and i wanted to stock my tank before then. Are there any other suppliers of fish besides ausyfish? cheers pete |

wot Rupe said bluefin, too hard to get onto pellets. You might spend 2-3 months trying for no result and they all die. Silver Perch are an AP standard for very good reason. Not sexy, but hard to kill and if you get them now and push them, you might grow them out b4 winter. Get at least a hundred, go for more if you can. You have plenty of pump capacity and room for more gbs. Go hard! Once again, forget Golden Perch unless you have an unlimited supply of free/cheap live food. |

The Golden Perch I got from Ausyfish were already weened onto pellets. The only reason they have not survived is that I got them late into the growing season and they had not built up enough to cope with the cold snap we had in August. They were quite happily taking pellets during the warmer months. I will be trying these again when I can organise a more permenent setup, and some winter heating. If you get them now and they are weened then you may get them to a stage where they will be able to cope with the winter, depending how cold it gets where you are. Otherwise go with Silvers. Himzo. |

Hey Mon, you know I love my silvers! I was more thinking from a trade perspective. Barra and Murray Cod have so much more kudos, but personally, silvers are bloody bullet proof as you prolly know urself. |

I killed my 50 GP despite assurance that they would take pellets. They did take live worms though, but a cheeper alternative would be to get some frozen meat (eg heart) and run it over a fine grater to make your own "worms" |

Golden perch love live food. They may eat pellets if the choice is starving. But after a while they seem to take the second option. |
