Ecology of the Planted Aquarium
by Diana Walstad

This one is great for tropical aquariums, but i suppose it's info would apply to all artificial systems that include fish and plants.

It got chapters on:
Plants as water purifiers- heavy metals, ammonia etc
Allelopathy- interesting chapter, how to outgrow algae
Bacteria- Total explanation of bacterias job in filtration, biofilms
etc...

It's focus is on establishing aquariums with stable plant--fish relationships, and explains most of it technically, but still comprehensible.

Has alot of good stuff on plant and algae competition, allelopathy.

Maybe not for everyone but makes a fascinating read. 189 pags of gold!
