Post subject:  jade perch in perth ?

So it looks like my next system will be up and running by spring and Ive got my eyes on some jade perch , after what Ive read about their insanely high levels of omega 3

anyone know where , when , even IF I can get jade perch fingerlings in perth / WA ?

I need a time to work towards , If I kow a certain rough date when the fingerlings are available , I can paln to have the system all cycled and ready

if not jades , then I'll settle for silvers I guess . or one of those deep sea "wolves of the ocean" that someone posted a while ago ...

Silver Perch sure are NOT banned in WA.
I don't know about whether Jadesare or not.
Golden Perch are also a nice alternative ( don't know if banned in WA).

I'll check it out. I certainly do not want to do the wrong thing. Not knowingly anyway!

just because its illegal doesn't mean its wrong. i know what you mean though. you don't want to do what the authorities consider to be wrong (usually something that will give them less control). hence the reason the industry here is bs and most aquaculturalists end up working for fisheries. much easier to make the rules then break them.

enough rant.

Golden Perch , Silver Perch and even Barramundi are all on the WA fisheries site as Class 2 , which means :
"Species of fish not to be imported into the State without the prior written approval or written authority of the Executive Director of the Department of Fisheries, and species of fish that may only be imported into WA with the written approval of the Executive Director, in accordance with a policy relevant to that species."

Jade Perch arent on that list , or the noxious species list , so Im assuming theyre o to import live

Any fish coming from outside W.A., into W.A. Must have written approvals from the fisheries translocation officer. Last person I know that applied to get Jade Perch into the state a year or two ago, had the application rejected. :? And recently someone else I know who tried to get silver perch imported from the east met extremely strong resistance, and was basically forced to find a local supplier.

Locally bred silver perch are no problem so long as you have a permit to keep silver perch (easy to get and costs nothing). So are trout and barra and black bream.. For other species? Well, we just have to wait for local W.A. hatcheries to start breeding them and making them available. I've heard there might be Murray cod coming soon with a bit of luck..

EB are you saying that to have Trout in WA requires a licence?

Perhaps we need a list of fish and the conditions for having them in AP quantities for each state.

eg:
Fish . . . . . . . . . . . . State
. . . . . .. . . . . . . Permitted / Licence / Banned
Tilapia . . . . . . . . WA, VIC . . WA, VIC . . .SA, QLD, NT,NSW, QLD
Silver Perch . . . . . . . WA . . . WA, . . . . . . .
Rainbow Trout. . . . . . WA . . . WA, . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . .

But using actual requirements & exclusions

Thanks,
Tony

so they're not restricted but they don't let them in, which completely restricts there use.

when is the gov going to ever move forward with this? its inevitable that these species are the future of the industry and were just getting further behind with their restriction.

it all seems like bs to me.

i don't believe that they require a license but a permit, unless you intend to sell them. permits are free to get i believe. expect a visit from the local council though. permits are a way for both fisheries and the counsel to keep an eye on you.
