Ok, it is now trout time. That poses a problem for us Kalgoorlie people. It is over 8 hours from a trout farm back to here, and I dont think trout would take too kindly to that. Anyone transported trout for that amount of time, or know of something closer? Troutman said it might be an idea to transport from Pemberton to Perth and place into a tank, then remove from tank after a couple of days and take them back to Kal. I havnt killed any AP fish yet AFAIK, and I would like to keep it that way. Ideas? Colin |

have you spoken to someone like Ausyfish who might be able to help you out with more information on transporting fish for long times? Ausyfish send overseas, and my perch came up by road, at least a 13 hour road trip and they all did fine. Or are trout more sensitive than perch? |

while transporting? As in heat from the car? If day time are still too warm (I doubt it now) I would move them at night. |

Requirements for transport depend on how much biomass (Kg). Basically numbers and size. More Kg requires more care. Bags or Tanks? here is some general stuff you may already know. Keep cool- night may be best. Add plenty of oxygen- diffuse pure oxygen if possible Add sodium chloride or calcium chloride- OO.3 % to 1% Drive carefully

I am off to get mine in a week from Troutman, I am going to transport them in 2 x blue barrels. Industry sources reckon that they will survive fine with a bubbler.

More buckets are better. How many buckets can you fit in the car/truck? Trout need a lot of oxygen, so keep the air going, and the temperature cool. How many minutes will it take to get where you are going? That's the more important information than the distance. I'll defer to the trout experts for a bucket:trout ratio. |

I just bought some 3-4 inch trout. The farm wouldn't put more than 20 in a bag with about 20 litres of water and filled with pure oxygen, for a 40 minute ride home. I agree with Janet, the more water and air the better. |
