| Post subject: | Odd water chemistry |
Hi, I have a 3 year old, 800L IBC system, with 8 adult silver perch in Melbourne. Fish "seem" ok and I have a semi-full growbed in which the plants are also doing ok. I don't check water chemistry all that often as nothing much changes. However my most recent testing (API test kit) gave the following results: pH: < 6.0 (API kit doesn't go below 6 but colour is darker yellow than chart) Ammonia: 0.5 -1.0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 20-40 ppm It has stayed at these levels for the past 3 weeks. Not sure if I should be worried and try to adjust. Thanks for any advice. |

To answer my own question: Yes, I need to raise the pH before the fish do become stressed. |

Looks pretty good to me.The PH could be up a bit. The NO2 is 0 so the Ammonia is getting sorted out & the NO3 is at good levels. Nothing to be worried about!. |

Water is also rather murky. Am raising pH slowly, and at same time will clean out the grow bed and wash the LECA - hasn't been done for 3 years. |
