I am curious about the maximum density allowed for goldfish per cubic meter or cubic foot (whatever is easier for you guys). I am looking at about 30-31 kg of fish (66-70 lbs) required to grow my plants and I have 2 fish tanks each of 1000 L (264 gallons). Can I grow this much goldfish in just these 2 fish tanks? And of course, thinking that mechanical and biological filters are good and running good, great water quality and so on. |

To optimize fish health I would allow 5-10 gal. per 4-6” goldfish. This gives a buffer for fluctuations in water quality and management errors. I’m afraid the high stocking density you are considering would stress the fish too much and you would lose some. Maybe you could start with this and work your way up once the system is running smoothly. |

Personally I follow 1lb of fish per 10 gallons. Remember thats expected grow out size. Makes a nice buffer. Experience wise i know i could stock more dense but I dont incase something goes south. I have more time to react and discover peoblems. I am lazy once the system is established with water quality checks. There are other schools of thought and articles. Like it matters more about the surface area of filter (aka grow bed). There is a formula and its complex. I cant remember it, buts nice to know that your filter is good enough to handle the bio load.
