Hello Everyone!

I am wanting to start a AP system with 25-50 Bluegill and I am trying to find the best local source of fingerlings. I am in Modesto and have not found anything close by. It either costs $50 to ship them in or I have to drive 1-2 hrs to pick them up.

Does anyone have a better solution or know of a close source?

Thanks!

I know they have them at J and J Aquafarms in Fresno, but that would be a few hour drive.

Check your local craigslist, or Offerup, you might have good luck. I've hem seen them posted around here from time to time.

Or, check with any local Pond shop, they might have them, but probably overpriced. And, potentially treated with pond chemicals for it or other things that aren't approved for edible fish, but you'd have to ask those questions.
Maybe they could give a quantity price break.

I remember seeing another farm around Sac, but they are only open to the public once a year or so.

J and J has quality fish at reasonable prices, and they have a variety if you want to try a few things. I might be worth a drive.

I would call ahead to check for availability.

You can also check Freshwaterfish.com, they are in the general area but they do not ship. Greenhillgardens.com is another good supplier that ships. It looks like they have bluegill available now, but they are pricey.

Bottom line, if you can't find it local from a private seller (craigslist or similar), then you will need to drive or pay shipping. That's just the way it is.
