Hi everybody,

Does anyone know if the sole (Solea senegalensis) can be raised in aquaponics?

Thanks for sharing your experience with me!

Doesn't look like anyone here has tried it. If you are planning on running a salt water or brackish water AP system it might work but I think the odds aren't good. There are also some freshwater species but it looks like the ones in the aquarium trade are difficult to feed and don't accept pellets that often so you'd probably be using frozen or live food.

I thought about trying out one of the freshwater sole species but decided to pass in the end. If you give any of these a try keep us posted :thumbright:

On a side note, there were some people trying to grow Samphire as a plant in AP - might be a thought for a salt water system if you decide to take a shot.

Cheers

I think even the ones that are called freshwater may actually spend some part of their life in salt or brackish water but it's been awhile since I looked closely at these and I can't remember for certain. It may not be a requirement that they spend time in saltier water though :dontknow: .
