I'm currently cycling a new system in Melbourne, Australia. The weather is getting warmer so trout isn't an option unfortunately. Can anyone recommend between Barramundi or Silver Perch?

I read that chop & flip IBC setup running efficiently can support about 12 trout. Would those same numbers apply to Barramundi or Silver Perch?

To warm for trout to cold for barra silver perch is the only option

Even the 9 months from Feb till Nov? My water temp was 12°C prior to adding a heater to boost cycling.

Any ideas on silver perch numbers for a chop & flip Inc?

You have to look at the overall picture heating comes at a cost
No body wants fish at $20.00 each
Seeing its your first system i would put in 20 gold fisf first just to make shore its all working well

Maybe a good idea with the goldfish. The heating is just to boost the bacteria growth, the system was cycling for 2 weeks at 12°C with no nitrites, I boosted it to 18°C and nitrites appeared within three days. I'll turn the heating off when the nitrates are present.

Thanks for you help

Silver perch are pretty tough... I started with them when I had no idea what I was doing. I lost none. Though goldfish are apparently tougher and cheaper.

I've used a rule of thumb of 1 perch (or other fish to be grown to plate/eating size) per 25 L of wet media.

So that would be about 12 silver perch if you do want to go with them.
