Recently my brother finished another one of his acrylic filters this time MkII and better than ever. It fits in the corner of the tank and uses i think 1500l/ph pump inside.
This is now the grow out tank currently housing tilapia (5mm) and Bristlenose catfish (3cm-6cm). I think currently all the tilapia that are 3cm are taken but when we grow this batch up its open to anyone interested.
These are the bigger tilapia, their brothers and sisters currently living in JefferyJ's system. Thanks Nic |

TimC, you've obviously got quite a handle on the acrylic............. Just wondering are you using trichloroethylene to bond (weld actually) the seams? If you're not, then you should try it, its phenomenal. If you are be very careful Look up the MSDS on it and wear eye protection. We used to use the crap like it was going out of fashion, and i was the only one that bothered to look up the MSDS. Its exposure limit is something like 10x the olfactory sensing level (IE its 10x above the safe exposure before you can smell it. Having said all that it bonds acrylic much like pvc cement would to PVC and its a clear thin liquid. Its also one of the best de-greasers i have seen. Just thought i'd mention it as you obviously do a bit of acrylic work oh hang on, also fond this |

I use Acrifix 192, it needs UV light to cure to maximum strength. It consists of methyl methacrylate.... I have about 1 min to adjust the acrylic before it skin dries. I then have 10 mins or so till the point of no return. But once the UV lamp hits it, it sets pretty fast... I have made a two sumps, several overflow boxes and a few filters with this stuff and it has never failed. I even accidentally cracked the end of my sump and I just glued it up with this stuff. |

Cool, sounds like a much safe alternative You should make and sell your acrylic gear on Ebay (if you don't already) Looks like good quality stuff. |

Since I bought a trimmer router, the stuff has been pretty easy to make. The only problem is the acrylic bender is at my old/temp work, so not as easily accessible these days. I used to just duck down to the workshop at lunchtimes... I might have to make one... When I have time.... |

Exactly, I think I might make one out of some relatively large aluminium C-section. Put a single heater element in and block the ends... Then make an adjustable gap on the top using some Al flat bar and some wing nuts. Should be simple enough. But I would buy one if I could find one cheap enough... |

Yeah, just like that rupe. I was going to fold one up from galv sheet, but where it touches the acrylic might heat up too fast and mark the plastic. Thats why I want to make one out of a piece of aluminium hollow section... Hopefully it would dissipate the heat a bit. |
