I pulled the centre drain pipe out of my barra system tank tonight to see if the holes in it needed a clean. When I did this, I found that on the very bottom of the pipe (nearly) - where it would be resting on the bottom of the tank there were quite a few little red (very bright red) wormy looking things. They all had their own little dirt homes. I expect these are all over the bottom of my fish tank - and in fact they are all over the bottom of the nursery tanks also, which have had no fish in them for weeks. Are they a parrasite. If so, they are not one that requires a host or they have a long cycle without host (cos they are in the nursery with no fish). I remember havign these in the sump and other places of my early perch system, only where the fish weren't, so I guess the fish were eating them. The barra don't eat worms, bugs or anything like that, so I guess that has let these breed up. The more I think about it the less worried I am - cos I remember speaking about and posting about these early on in my AP life and my fish don't seem to have had any issues. Anyone know what they are without a picture. They have pincers I think. I once though they might be hydra - but I don't think so now. |

Thanks Jaymie - have posted there now. My question about them in July 2006 is still on the same page, so I guess there has not been much activity on that thread till the last day or 2 :-) |
