Hey guys, I been away for a while Sn just got back to Melbourne, wondering if the weather had cooled enough to stock my 1000lt tank with trout yet.

i havent bought any yet, but i would say yes.
been high teens to mid 20's the last couple weeks.

Yeah all good, it's been up an going for a few years, but will double check an test the water. Might head out this weekend an stock up

Where are you going to get them from?
I rang Buxton Trout Farm today, they said they've got 8 month old 3-4"fingerlings for $1.40 each.

Last few years I got em from Macclesfield, an usually paid $2.00 for yearlings about 5-6". Plus it's closer to me. Will give em a call today I think

yea i also only ever buy yearlings from macclesfield.
i wouldnt buy fingerlings TBH, cant get them to 1kg in a season.

they still $2ea?
mind letting me know if they are selling yet? i need to go in the next couple of week or so myself.

Called em yesterday, they couldn't give me an exact price but said about $2 - $2.50. They also said not sure if the can sell em or have enough so call just before heading up to make sure

The trout I got as 30-50 mm long last year are from the same batch as the ones they have now. At the time one of the guys told me they divide the fingerlings up so they can feed them at different rates. This enables them to carry fish all year round of various sizes. My survivors are about 6-8" now.

thanks, they may not have had such a good breeding season or have been extra busy this summer i suppose.

Yeah think they been busy this summer, went up thus morning an could only get 20 yearlings, $2.50 ea but a good size, combination of golden an rainbow trout
