hi all

i was wondering what month do you guys/girls start introducing trout to your
ponds. im hoping to finish off my aquaponic set in time to grow trout and i just cant wait much longer ^^

as soon as you can consistantly keep your tank temps below 20C (preferably 18C or lower)

I would get your system going now with Goldfish or Perch first and then introduce the trout once it cools down. Getting your system cycled in the cool weather is just that much harder.

I have a feeling that the weather will stay warm for quite a while a chill off in a snap!
Hoping to get trout in my system in early April.
I know I will have to beg the grower!!

I have placed the mesh to stop little ppl entering the middle pond...
The mesh was tested several times and all times managed to keep them out!

Hey guys,
predictably I'm getting impatient ;-)
I want to eat some trout.
BUT
the optimum eating size mentioned is 500-750g I think (please confirm)
however without stressing the fish (they go off their food for 2 days every time they're measured) just how long is 500g and 750g respectively. I remember seeing a silver perch weight to length plot, but finding such info on trout has been much harder.
I measured 2 today at 200mm and 240mm respectively.
Is the bigger one edible? The smaller looked too small.

Hey Kuda...
Why wait?
The best size fish meal is in the 200- 250 range anyway.
It just means the bones are a bit smalller.
All you do is empty the gut cavity (don't scrub it) and put in some herbs/lime stuff.
And bake for 15 minutes @180 rest for 10.
...slide the skin off and eat one side,
then gently lift the head and frame & tail of the plate assisting the underside
of the frame to 'let go'.
Does that make sense or is it how everyone eats a whole fish?
