Theres probably a thread alredy dedicated to this , but I couldnt find it . I should have my 4500L system up and running in a month or so , then another month+ to get it going properly . Im hoping to have it all running before the weather turns colder , by which time I'll be ready for fish - Im thinking winter = trout The tank to GB ratio will only be at or slightly above 1 - 1 , so Im wondering a) how many trout ? I dont want to overdo it , as I'd rather segregate batches with mesh of some sort , rather than have them all ready to eat at the same time b) anyone know a good place to get small amounts of trout fingerlings / how much should I expect to pay c) anyone got some good advice specific to trout At the moment its summer , Im rotating 4 bottles of frozen water between the freezer & the 2 rabbit hutches to keep the bunnies cool during the day . once the weather turns and they dont need them , Im thinking Ill use rotate them between the freezer & the trout to keep the water a little cooler ( I know it wont have a huge effect , but a full freezer is more efficient than an empty one , may aswell put it to use ) . Either that , or I'll bury a bar fridge & coil tube through it , Ive seen that done before for a marine tank |

only if you're not using it to freeze copious amounts of water tips for the trout are; 1) feed them lots 2) give them lots of air 3) keep the temp at 18 if you can or dont feed 4) get them when the weather cools sufficiently and harvest them when it warms too much, dont do the ice thing on a regular basis, its ok for emergencies but innefficient, and time consuming having them "out of season" |

yeah - the freezing bottles thing was only going to be for times when the temp gets too high Winter here is supposed to be low temp , 2 - 18 degrees . but summer temps have been up and down like a yoyo , so Im not holding my breath that winter will ALL be below 18 degrees any tips on the "perfect" type of food ? I'll be hanging / floating little solar lights to see if they attract bugs that then fall into the water aswell , to add a little bit of extra feed in |

Yeah I looked for a post from troutman earlier in this thread, only when I didn't find it did I realise that it was a typo. Amazing the difference 1 letter can make. Stupid damn language we speak! :-) |
