Hi all!

Has anyone had any experience with putting two different species in the same tank, but seperating them somehow? maybe a screen from drilled aluminium or (safe) plastic?

I have an IBC i would like to have SP and trout in there. most of the space for the trout, but SP for over summer when I have harvested the trout

I tried trout and SP in the same tank, and as some other members have suggested, it didn't turn out so well for the SP..

A much easier way would be 2 fish tanks

Yea for sure I would like to do that! But our backyard is pretty small, and I think i've reached my quota of space.
Maybe down the track a small <250L one could be snuck in somewhere..

In all honesty it wasn't real great. All the fish no matter what size basically tried so hard to get through that they took skin of everywhere. I deemed it pretty inhumane in the end.

After that I kept trout, yabbies, SP and catfish all in the same FT without any issues. All fish species other than trout need to have some size on them and introduce the trout when they are small and you won't have a problem.

Thanks Charlie that looks like about what I was planning. shame to hear the fish didn't manage so well.
I have some SP now but they are pretty small so it could be a while before they could handle some overly friendly trout

I have a round tank, and wanted to get smaller fingerlings..
I constructed a half-circle net with plastic hooks around the half circle, and stainless steel bolts in the bottom..
It hangs on the tank lip, and just dangles in the tank..

Not used it yet, as the (tiny estuary perch) fish I got all died in transit, but it seems functional..
The only issue is the debris that slowely gathers in the mesh, but that can be shaken out..
Particularly good for completely isolating small fish..
Problem with dividing tank in half is the reduced swim space for all the fish..
