Trout and salmon are closely related, so it's not hugely surprising....

But somehow I think that they've missed the point.....

Both trout and salmon....... and most other species of fish... are quite capable of producing large numbers of eggs and sperm....

The reason that any species of fish has become "endangered"..... isn't because of any lack of sexual viability....

But the fact that we keep polluting their habitat.... or over-fishing them....

Producing eggs of one species "hosted" in another..... isn't going to solve the problem.....

Its probably that they used salmon and trout (about which heaps is known) to refine the theoretical technique prior to trying to use it on some endangered species about which very little is known.
