[*]hi all Am new to the forum scene but have been set up for about one year now 45 odd Jade in 1000 litre IBC 400 litre ST,4 GB Re the above,I've noticed that 4 or 5 of my Jades have an injury on their sides..looks like a scrape..has taken off the scales and perhaps a small amount of skin..about the size of a 10 cent piece.. Thought it was ICH to begin with..( I salted to 3 PPM) and temperature is quite high already.(HONG KONG) but I'm not sure now.. My FT is quite devoid of obstacles apart for the SLO and the water inlet from the ST.. I will send this post first to make sure it "posts" all ok then try to send some pictures in addition to this.. Hope to hear from any one that can help.. Any help would be great ! Cheers |

I'd want to see some pictures as well. Is there any sort of cotton wool substance over the fish?Anything else strange? What's the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate like? |

Hi guys, sorry for the late get back I will try to attach some pictures after this ...in answer to some of the Q above,no there isn't any cotton wool substance over the fish I'm running a straight 1000 litre IBC My ammonia is around 0.25 to 0.5 at the most and near zero Nitrites, however my Nitrates are very high and have been always.. Ive got 4 GB which have a sparse amount of veg as I've had no end of trouble with pests here,I live near the Forrest/bush,so we are on the front line.. I bought the Jade form a hatchery here in Hong Kong..they were introduced here in the 90,s as we know quite popular with the fish farmers.. |

Hi Artie.. Sure.. They are from a fish farm in Yuen Long This farm mainly raises eels.. As well as Jade.. Kam Tin is the area.. They seem to be quite professional And clean.. Think I have finally found the answer It's Mycobacterium.. Very easy to get . I've made contact with someone who is in the fish farm biz.. He sent me his opinion and just so happens he also had a similar situation with his Jades.. Funny thing is he doesn't think Jades are a good fish for Aquaponics ? He thinks they get sick very easily!?thought they we're be of the better choices ?! So I've purchased a gold up tank from Tao Bao and will take out the infected fish..( kill them ) take out the remaining good fish and put them into the fold up tank.. Salt it..( De chlorinate the water 1st ) Then do a 100% water change.. Try to clean everything as best as I can I've read that even then I may not be able to get rid of it..any comments ? |

Only because few times let the water quality drop to far, otherwise very easy to look after. Easy to breed, only other problem I had in HK was if you had a cold snap in the winTer,as mine were kept in large aquarium s in side,it was colder than outside.. |
