Post subject:  Methylene Blue

Hi, I just lost my first batch/attempt of tilapia eggs in a tumbler to fungus. I was moving tilapia and a female spit out a ton of eggs. I decided to collect them and make a tumbler last minute. Long story short I lost the eggs to fungus. So, I have now made a proper tumbler and have a proper tank set up for them and I ordered some methylene blue to treat the eggs because that seemed like the best route. Now that it is here it says on the bottle not to use it on fish to be consumed... however this paper seems to suggest it is fine http://ag.arizona.edu/azaqua/ista/ista6 ... df/188.pdf

Any thoughts?
Thanks

According to my guide book from Fish and Wildlife service's AADAP, the only approved drugs for use on fungus that affects eggs for edible fish is formalin and hydrogen peroxide. If you want dosing info I can provide that...

Can't speak to the use of methylene blue and edibility but it can inhibit nitrification if any of this is attached to your system and bio-filters.
