Believe it or not, our chooks LOVE duckweed. Weird huh?....if only they could lay eggs....

Nah, seriously. We do have chooks, only one of them is laying. They are chooks though, they're just not laying, they're trying to but nothin' comes out! We might as well take 'em back and ask for a refund. |

i have a duck, 5 chooks, and a dog. everyone gets along  dog steals the eggs every now and then though

that's wat used to happen to us. But, the chooks aren't laying...unless the dog is stealing them as well, but I doubt it. The chooks also eat our dog's food. every mornin' they go to his food dish. RupertofOZ-my parents would NEVER let us have roosters. |

we don't really have a chook shed, we have a shed that they go into at night, but, since they have got their wings clipped they are let out in the backyard to run around. Tommy, (our dog) doesn't bother them. but, we no that they are trying to lay but they aren't. The one that is laying has gone real spastic and thinks she is sitting on a fertilized egg. So she sits on it all day and only comes off once every week or so. But it's defenantly not fertalized, we have no roosters. Other peoples chooks are doin' the same.... |

They prolly could do with some protein... If you dog has dog biscuits then they are good for the chooks as a kick start but don't keep feeding them--Mans best friends--bikkies because there is some stuff in there you don't want to eat...if you do get some eggs. Also the hen that is sitting could be picked up every now and then and popped outside to wake up. They almost go to sleep for a few weeks trying to hatch an egg, you need to wake them up when they sit for no good reason. When you pick her up you will feel that she will be very warm probably hot, bit like us being in a car for a few hours, just nodding off! Hope this helps. C1 |
