Hi Guys I have a pretty big Australian Bass in my aquaponic system - I'd estimate around the 1kg mark and a length of probably 35-40cm Unfortunately it's a total jerk and will kill anything I try to home with it, so I was thinking of transferring it to fishtank and restocking my system with something I can get more growth an nutrients from. Do you think a tank 125x35x50cm would be a suitable size to house the bass? I have one handy and could set that up relatively easily. Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you -Tim |

I would think a tank that size is to small for a fish that large especialy when you consider that it is only going to get bigger. |

Put another one or 2 in there and they'd be like sardines in a tin! Way too small a tank for that size fish. |

What are Bass like for eating anyway, I dont think I've ever tasted it. How about growth rates, how fast/slow are they? Who stocks them for sale? |

No worries, cheers guys, I suspected that might be the case. It could be a dinner fish but it has survived quite a lot through my first year and a half of aquaponics and I would prefer to keep it and have it on display. Unfortunately it can not be homed with anything living (including bass bigger than itself) as it will kill anything it can get near immediately! I might see if I can acquire a bigger tank to keep it in. As for the questions about growth rates - I think in the last 12 months mine has probably grown less than 1.5cm (and possibly not at all) and gained minimal weight. They are very good at keeping themselves alive and are super tolerant of anything you throw at them, but they are quite aggressive to each other and grow quite slowly |
