| Post subject: | Barramundi, Where to get them? |
Hi Folks, just sneaking in while the boss isn't watching to ask a quick question. Who is a good and reputable supplier of Barra fingerlings? I want to see how they go in my little set up once I have it all cycled (approx 3 more weeks according to averages). I hope to have one "tank" with Barra, One with Aussie bass and Silvers in the sump tank.. Anywho, I'm after a name of a supplier of Barra. I'll be reading the posts, just can't log on until I get home. H. |

Thanks Mon, I gave them a call today just to get some questions answered, seem like a nice bunch, willing to help. I was just going to keep Silvers, but the aussie bass from livefish are just too tempting and will probably be a long term grow out, and as for the barra... well her brother just sent some down from Darwin and the question was .."Couldn't that thing your building be used for raising Barra?" Is growing barra cost effective vs just buying it though? |

Probably not, but then thats not the point of why we do what we do. It's kind of like my woodwork, I could probably buy a cofee table or bookcase cheaper than I can make them for - but it's not as much fun. |

The other thing not to forget is that the cost of the fish is offset by the production of vegetables. Can you give us the info from you phone call to WBA - cost, size, availability etc. I was thinking about ringing them soon and you can save me 17cents. My wife was won over by Monyas barra, but I still cant convince her to use the bath for purging them. |

Available now, they quoted me $5 each for fish in the 70-100mm range for a small number (he was thinking about 10) When I said I wanted about 25 or more he said they could probably do a better price. Smaller ones were cheaper but would take longer to grow out. BTW, he also mentioned that this would be a cash purchase only.. H. |

yep got that response too very friendly blokes, if youse can organise a group purchase, they get much cheaper. If we get our act together and get them on our species list......... they would be very cheap. |

yeah true the veggies offset it a bit. i've worked out that perch are cheaper even without the veggies factored in. and i guess you can't get it any fresher. |
