| Post subject: | Treating ich |
Hi, I am having a problem with ich. I have goldfish in my system and I live in the northeast USA (so it's winter here). I have my system running but not growing anything due to cold climate. I have salted my system trying treat the ich but it hasn't worked. I am leary of chemical treatments because I will be growing food in the spring. Any suggestion? Thanks Reed ![]()

.. What about removing them to a hospital tank and treating them.. I assume that it's stress from the low temperature... .. . |

Sorry, if this might be obvious, but how much did you salt with? For how much water? And dude, you fish are flying! |

As far as treating in a hospital tank that's not a bad idea but what about when I put him back in the original tank? My tank is 75gals. And the specific gravity is up to 17 ppt. |

You have 17ppt and still have plants alive? They'd have withered and died at that salt level. |

you could use a UV steriliser, there are some cheep ones on line that work well, the salt usually destroys the cists but the larval stage may survive in any sediment in your system. I have managed to beet Ich with salt and a UV steriliser, one thing with the salt is it needs to go in all at once so the cists don't get the chance to adapt, so you could dissolve all the salt in a bucket then pour it in. good luck. I don't have anything growing now because it's winter here and I grow outside. |
