I think i might have a pregnant platy but it is hard to tell. Her stomach is fat and she has a dark spot above her pelvic fin. Also she is hiding a good bit. My make to female ratio is M:F 1:2 what do you guys think? https://plus.google.com/118381970218952173935 |

The ratio should be 3-4 females per male if you want to crank out more fry. If you see a black spot forming within the female around her anal fin then she is gravid, meaning she has fertilized eggs inside her. After four weeks or so she will give live birth. So you should remove her from the main tank closer to that time and place her in a bare bottom tank with some moss for the fry to hide in. The second she releases the fry remove her from the fry tank. To feed the fry put the flake feed your giving the adults in a ziplock and crush it to a powder. Feed the fry 4 times daily. Do daily water changes to remove uneaten feed and have the water temp. 75 - 80 for maximum growth. Good Luck. They are easy to spawn. |
