Unfortunately neither do well in aquaponics. Do some searching on the forum and you will see many discussions on this topic. Build a dam if you want to breed them

I like eating both. Yabbies are a bit more tender IMHO. Had a great feed, (9l bucket) of dam yabbies April this year. They were left to purge in the dam water for about 24 hrs before eating.

I was given ten babies, and so I thought it better to keep them in a 40L heated aquarium to grow a bit.. at winter's end, B4 moving to the AP sump..
I kept food up to them but it did not take too long to end up, that just two females and one male remained.

Talk about survival of the fittest - and I gave them holy-rock to hide in.. Nothing to do with hunger - pure dominance and territory.

Some have said that it is VERY difficult using IBC's - there is just not enough room to hide.. AND end up with a good feed

One of mine has a clutch of eggs growing under her tail.. when they hatch, they will go into the sump and we will just see what happens.. I really can't see it as a practical venture, and all I will find is a few very healthy, dominant brutes that proved to be the strongest..

After keeping both I would say Yabbies. They grow faster and more tolerant of water quality fluctuations, Marron just seem to walk at the slightest sudden change eg. topping up with rainwater or a spike in ammonia.
I didnt see if you were using an IBC or not for them, but you could keep a small number in there without too many problems.
