[font=Comic Sans MS]I was toying with the idea of stocking one of my ponds with 3 or 4 larger fish from the local stream - we (we being all of year 6 and 7) did a river audit on the particular stream last year and concluded that it was in excelent condition, as were all the fauna and flora - so I am not too worried about disease... has anybody done this? Any advise or cautions out there??

Mate .. I know that in WA .. some fish .. you can take until they are extinct .. eg. Yabbies (destructor)...

Others .. you have no chance .. heavy fines ..

Best bet is to e-mail local fisheries and ask them what you can take!

Having said that .. if a person who has a dam stocked with natives .. I don't think that they have a prob passing on natives ... but worth checking all the same ..

eg. I wanted something to mnage mossie fry in a small shallow azzolla tank ... 2 days ... 4 pigmy perch ... all mozzies gone!

better than gambusia or guppys .. goldfish!

I want to breed these little natives!

Fisheries would rather you stock something useful and native than something like gambusia from the local stream ... Eeewww...

even frogs .. they have tightened up so much ..

Rare Aussie frogs ..... that is a different story ... worth finding out how to culture these .. I think you could get suport from unis .... and of course seeking advice from your fisheries department.

I dont really want something which might nibble at my tree grogs ( I have 4 at last count hiding around my system) - so vegeterian would be a preference as I already have 22 barra.
I also like the idea of natives...

Maybe ask fisheries dept for some advice?

In my experience .. they are real good .. especially on the phone .. when they hear where you are coming from .. they are superb!

I'd be going with Johnnies advice AM. I have collected a few legal size black bream and stocked them into my system in the past, but I'm not sure about the legalities of this.
