I really should get organized! They are cheap! The local pet store has got some in and I was admiring them, they are only about 2 to 3 inches and they want about $10 each for them! They can't work out why no one will buy them! I asked how much they were when they first came in and the assistant asked me how many I wanted so I said "If they are the right price, I'll take the whole tank full." (6 or 7 of them) Needles to say, she was disappointed when I told her she could keep them! |

Makes you wonder, the heating would be worth it if you could sell them for 1/2 that. A little tank of barra might be worth a try....... 'course the goldies wouldn't like 'em! lol DH likes the idea of barra too. |

i recon if people want to run cold water fish in a warm climate or warm water fish in a cold climate the only way to do it economically is to have a 2 tank system, one in the garage or something, well insulated and CLOSED off to the GB's only running a biofilter. Then once per week (or whatever amount of time it take for the nitrates to max out do a 100% water change to the rest of the AP system. That way you will oly be inputting p[ower to cool or heat the losses to ambient (low if well insulated) and the weekly 100% water changes. if you have to raise 1000l change out water by say 5C it would take about 2.5 hr and around $1.10 with the system i'm doing. |

No, per 1000L change out of water if you have to heat it up by 5C So in guess it depends on how often you have to do the 100% water change. $1.10 per 1000L water change + the daily keeping it warm cost. i couldnt give you a figure on the "keep warm" cost becasue it depends on so many variables, mostly how well insulated your tank is. |
