I was wanting blue tilapia based on my reading and hoe wasy they are said to be, but evidently you need a license to own these so now I am thinking I need to reevaluate. The local hatchery has Trout, Yellow perch, bluegill, bass, and
catfish. I am trying to stock a small indoor system (55 gal fish tank with (4) 18" x 24" growbeds) with just a couple of fish as proof of concept.

any advice you guys could offer on the above fish breeds and their suitability to my experiment?

I would use bluegill.... they can stand hot or cold water and are easy to train to pellets..

+1 on the bluegill
i consider yellow perch to be a "cool" water species, and they would do ok, but they don't handle water as warm as bluegill, but quite a bit warmer than trout - a cold water species.. can handle
bass and catfish would get too big for that size tank i think..
