Post subject:  Will there be enough poo?

We want to start a aquaponic system this year to supplement our hydropnic setup. We are located in Indiana USA and do not have enclosed facilities. I do have an area under roof to put the tanks, but the plants have to go outside. My questions are regarding fish. All the fish I have looked into take longer than a season to produce an edible size fish and are quite expensive in our area. We are wondering if we could raise freshwater shrimp and crawfish in raceway tanks. I know this is a common way of raising the shrimp. We were thinking about 4 tanks that would measure 4 feet wide 2 feet deep and 12 feet long.

Do you think that crawfish and shrimp will put out enough excrement to alow us any quantity of grow bed? We like using nft setups and would like to go that route with the aquaponics as well.

Thanks.

Nup..... Stocking densities of crustaceans just don;t really allow enough , at least not in any system I've seen..

For some reason I thought talapia take multiple seasons. All of my experience is from the hydroponic side of this. Lots to learn.
