Quote: Legal implications
• It is illegal to catch and keep, buy, sell, possess or harm silver perch (or any other threatened species in NSW) without a specific permit or licence, and significant penalties apply. For vulnerable species, these penalties can include fines of up to $55,000 and up to 1 year in prison. ....now that I have your undivided attention....found this on the NSW DPI site dated June 2005 http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets ... _perch.pdf |

all but NSW! Does that make sense? After all the tinkering with rivers, streams etc, I think their looking at this the wrong way! Get the rivers back to normal there wont be a problem. |

nah, but you can keep them in dams and stuff. It woldn't make sense that you couldn't keep fish that had been specifically bred for sale, thats not going to impact natural numbers in any way. |

I talked to fisheries sometime ago about this.... The intention is to prevent illegal gathering of fish from "threatened areas". Seems in the past many fish were taken to supply the aquarium trade..... basically a "don't take from their threatened natural habitat" provision There is actually a concentrated "restocking" program being undertaken in NSW with Silver Perch.... so far unsuccessfully due to the problems with drought and lack of flow in the Murray Darling system..... Stocking for hobby purposes isn't considered a problem, but it's a bit of a nod and a wink type situation.... stocking for aquaculture is required to be licensed, but so is every species of fish in NSW |
