My aquarium has 10 new small goldies, a couple of rosie barbs a stripy fish and a BIG white goldfish. The new ones have been in for 3 weeks with no deaths, all are eating like mad, fat bellies etc.

Question is: The big white one has been sprinting from one end of the tank to the other evry so often, and just tried to launch himself out of the tank (big splash etc etc etc) . Should i be concerned. :? Has anyone else had this happen, is it a water problem? The tank has one small filter catridge and a plant in perlite on continuous flow. No water smell, wouldn't have a clue to ph as I don't test the water

If its just the one fish then its probably just high on life :)

I had a silver shark that would do that :)

I think the key is that its only the one fish. If you were killing them with your levels then i'd expect all of them to be reacting

cheers, just thought it was pretty quirky. It's a great fish- white with black eyes, I'd hate him to die a preventable death. Also got a goldie with one eye- that's pretty weird I reckon

dunno. Got him in a random scoop from the aquarium shop, I't like his right eye just didn't happen. Kinda cool but weird at the same time

as did I... I came home to find it all dried out on the floor... which also happened to be the day I started construction of my fishtank lid....

yeah, if I didn't have a lid, he would have done the high dive. Reckon he has a sore head now, has slowed right down :drunken:

poor silver sharks, mine had gotten huge over the space of a year. he could flick his tail and be on the other side of the 4ft tank in about 0.3 seconds.

Unfortuatly i stumbled into the lounge room one night with the lights off and he slammed himself into the tank wall and broke his back. Iwas very say :(

I used to put goldfish into my new fishtanks just to get the bacterial cycle started as they can be tough little buggers... on the odd occasion they would race up and down the front of the tank as if trying to find a hole in the glass (or trying to wear one into the glass)... But I always put it down to them being in a new tank with no "furniture" like rocks etc... I was often glad those tanks had lids too :confused1:

they really prefer to be in pairs. This sounds like dejavu *

yeah I know... when I was thinking of first getting them I did a little research and it was the general suggestion that you keep them in pairs, so I did... just after the other 1 folded up its fins I went to get another 1... but they wanted $12 for one small one - a bit dear when I had payed $8 for 2 to start with!
When I do get another one the size diff is going to be very noticable.

yeh, it was for me too, and they didn't really hang out anyway. God knows how much mine would have been worth (or yours) at the size they are (were) at

for one the size mine is NOW they want around the $25 mark, but there are not that many around... must be 'out of season'... when we bought them every pet shop had them in huge numbers, but not so at the moment.
