Quick qeustion, I am told by the fish folks that blue gill don't we well in tanks because they don't eat fish food very well. I know I will be using aquponic type fish food, but not sure of the differences between the two. if anyone had issues raising blue gill or successfully raised blue gills could you let me know? Another option is a hybrid sunfish they sell a larger size fish than the blue gill, ready to eat sooner but dont reproduce well. wonder if the fish folks are trying for re-occuring business.

Also taking recommendations of a good fish food to aid in human consumption when they are tasty size.

After looking at more topics and asking the fish guy, I have decided on catfish. They can stand cooler temps - and reasons in other topics like cleaner tank, produce ammonia well.

Being new, its hard to make good dicisions on what you have little experiecne with, but I need to decide the fish will be in April 2nd, and the tank it still sitting on my deck.

bluegill do just fine in aquaponic systems..and are fairly easy to feed train.. pumpkin seed is just a different strain of sunfish/bluegill

Got Bluegill Hybirds in my 55 gal tank right now. If you decide to get some bluegills or hybirds, invest in a castnet. Thats how I got mine.
