Hi all,

I have searched through the forum a bit to find out if you can get Jade here. Ive only found some dated a few years back that talk of Jade being introduced into the Commercial Aquaculture of WA. Im just wondering if Jades have made it to the Backyard AP yet?? What are the most ideal conditions for Jade?? Can we keep them here in Perth??

Thanks :thumbleft:

I don't think we are allowed them in the state.

As you can see on the add I applied to farm Jades over a year ago now with the intention of supplying them for use in aquaponics. I am still yet to receive official notification from fisheries BUT from chatting to them I expect that its not going to be approved.
On my travels I have seen heaps of people with Jades in their aquaponics systems and these are either sourced thru the aquarium shops (its legal to keep them in aquariums but not in aquaponics systems) or brought in from Qld.
My advice is to ring the fisheries dept and express your desire to have Jades and see what they have to say. You will need to heat the water over the winter though to keep them happy.

Thanks for the replys :)

Sadly nutrient wise it would be an excellent fish to farm in the backyard. Can understand why the fisheries wont want to officially release it to the public. Looks like a tank for silvers then :)

Perhaps you should change your name, by deed poll, to Gina Rinehart or Andrew 'Twiggy' Forrest. :)

I know they are in 'caretaker mode' but nearly 1 year to get a decision is unacceptable. They gave the public 21 days to comment. Either they are running environmental impact studies, which they should have told you about, or you have slipped between the cracks (ie your application keeps getting put to the bottom of the in-tray).

Couldnt agree more Sleepe but this is the norm with the WA fisheries dept. It took them over 1 yr to grant me my aquaculture licence so I expected a long wait.

Definitely haven't slipped thru the cracks as I regularly phone them up for updates, last time I inquired I was told that I should have the decision in about 6 weeks ad that was about 4 weeks ago now so it must be getting close.
